It was a beautiful, sunny summer day. We met up in the early afternoon and had a very late lunch at The Roost.
Then we began walking. We walked south from Irving Park to Belmont along Southport. We walked east on Belmont to Clark. We stopped in at a comic book store.
I bought comics.
Then we walked farther east on Belmont to Broadway, stopping for tea along the way. And stopped at a record store
I bought records.
Then we walked north on Broadway (avoiding a very tempting book store) and west on Roscoe to Southport. Stopped at a bar. We had beer. Then we walked back to my apartment and played Super Mario World.
All of it in the wrong shoes.
It was a great way to spend a Sunday. I can’t remember the last time I did that much city wandering. I can’t remember the last time I spent time in a comic store or record store. It’d been too long. And it was the last time for a while that I’d be seeing my friend Cameron now that he’s off at grad school in Oregon. It seemed fitting to be out wandering the streets of Chicago as a send off.
